Battle Ground — Students in the Battle Ground Public Schools have spread holiday cheer far and wide this month. At Maple Grove Primary School, they wrote letters of thanks to U.S. troops and sent snacks, toiletries and toys for the military members to hand out to Afghan children. Across town, Battle Ground High School students and other volunteers at the community center packed food boxes for local families. Each box contained 70 pounds of canned goods, 11 pounds of dried goods, brown sugar, a gallon of milk and a turkey, all local donations. “We don’t want anyone going hungry,” said John Idsinga, president of both the Battle Ground school board and the North County Community Food Bank.
