STORRS, Conn. (AP) — A couple are pledging to donate $4.5 million toward the construction of a $30 million basketball practice facility at the University of Connecticut.
UConn officials said Thursday the donation from Peter and Pamela Werth is the largest private gift to the university’s Division of Athletics.
Peter Werth is founder and CEO of generic drug development and supply company Chemwerth Inc. The firm was established in 1982 and provides active pharmaceutical ingredients to world markets.
UConn says the Werths are avid Husky fans and season ticket holders for men’s and women’s basketball games. The Woodbridge couple have been donors since 2003. Their three children attended UConn.
The Werths say UConn basketball is part of the fabric of Connecticut and the facility will help build successful teams for years to come.
