Kent State rolls to 69-54 win over Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Randal Holt scored 17 points, Carlton Guyton had 11 and Kent State rode a dominant first half to its first-ever victory over Arkansas State, 69-54 on Thursday.

Holt was 6 of 11 from the field, including 3 of 7 on 3-pointers. Guyton added seven rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Golden Flashes (9-3), who led 40-20 at halftime.

Marcus Hooten and Malcoln Kirkland led the Red Wolves (6-8) with 12 points each, and Kirkland and Brandon Peterson each pulled down nine rebounds.

Kent State never trailed in the game. Holt opened the scoring with a 3-pointer 42 seconds in, and the Golden Flashes closed the first half on a 15-5 run.

Arkansas State shot just 37 percent (21 for 57) in falling to 5-2 at home this season. The Red Wolves had won the only previous meeting between the schools, 60-50 on Dec. 15, 1950.
