BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) — A $500 reward is being offered for information in the out-of-season killing of a bighorn sheep in Eastern Oregon’s Baker County.

The Oregonian reports that a state trooper responded Wednesday to a report of a ram carcass between Huntington and Richland along Brownlee Reservoir. The animal had been killed around Dec. 22. State police say the ram’s head was removed but the rest of the carcass was abandoned.

Bighorn sheep hunting is allowed in the Lookout Mountain Wildlife Management Unit in Baker County, but the season ended there on Sept. 25. Only two tags are issued for the unit each year.

The reward is offered by the Oregon Hunters Association Turn-in-Poachers Reward Program.
