With the unfortunate and short-sighted decision rendered recently on the future of minor league baseball in Clark County, sports fans need to be reminded that we still have two sports franchises active in the area. The Vancouver Volcanoes will be defending their basketball title this spring, and the Vancouver Victory ice hockey franchise has just completed half of its first season of Tier III Junior NorPac action.
The Vancouver Victory are seeking to renew the hockey scene in the area. They are a group of skilled and aggressive 16- to 20-year-old hockey players, some who attend our local high schools, who harbor hopes of higher hockey exploits and seek to represent Clark County in a positive manner. They have had good success thus far and have honored our area by their efforts. They have 10 home games remaining this season, and it would be great to see more fans backing them the rest of the way. They are fighting to rise in the standings and make the push for the March playoffs. The fans so far have been vocal, supportive and been treated to some great hockey action … there have just been too few of them in attendance.
