CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Corvallis firefighters say smoke from a commercial dryer fire has prompted the closure of the Dixon Recreation Center on the Oregon State University campus.

Firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire inside a clothes dryer in the east portion of the building when they responded about 5 p.m. Thursday. However, significant smoke had spread throughout the facility so it was closed for the rest of the night.

The fire department says cleaning towels that contained organic cleaning products had been placed in the dryer, resulting in rapid internal heating and eventual ignition.
