COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — University of Arizona coach Frank Busch will take over as national team director for USA Swimming.

Busch said Tuesday he would start his new job in May and his deal runs through the 2016 Olympics. USA Swimming plans to make an official announcement Wednesday.

Busch is in his 22nd season as the Wildcats’ coach, leading both the men’s and women’s teams to NCAA titles in 2008. He served on the U.S. staff at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. Among the many Olympians he has coached is two-time gold medalist Amanda Beard.

Busch replaces Mark Schubert, who was dismissed last fall.

Busch’s hiring was first reported by Swimming World.
