ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — A 50-year-old Roseburg man has been arraigned on a murder charge in the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son.

Mark Allen Vanderhoof was in Douglas County Circuit Court on Monday on a charge he struck and killed Dennis “Bubba” Young on Jan. 25.

Vanderhoof had told authorities the boy fell from the porch, but medical personnel became suspicious of his injuries.

Briana Snow told The News-Review newspaper that Vanderhoof had been her boyfriend for six months and they were living in the rural community of Lookingglass.

Court documents show Vanderhoof served nine years in prison after pleading guilty to raping a 4-year-old girl.

Snow said she had not known Vanderhoof had been in prison, and was shocked when he was arrested.
