MONTESANO, Wash. (AP) — The superintendent of the Monroe Correctional Complex says he has to wait for the criminal investigation of a guard’s strangling death before he can change how Washington’s largest prison is run.
Superintendent Scott Frakes told The Daily Herald of Everett he can’t even question some of his own officers to determine what went wrong when Jayme Biendl was strangled Saturday night at the prison chapel.
Frakes says all security practices will be reviewed and many activities for inmates will likely be scaled back.
There are about 2,500 prisoners at the Monroe complex.
