EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The latest monthly economic index from the University of Oregon indicates the state economy showed some encouraging signs in December.
In fact, economist Tim Duy told the Oregonian on Thursday that he sees a recovery under way. He prepares the index.
The index for December shows that Oregon residential building permits were up, although from low levels. It also shows initial unemployment claims down sharply, to their lowest level since April 2008, and temp hiring up substantially.
He also notes that orders for capital goods were up nationally.
