Morehead State knocks off Jacksonville State 78-72

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Kenneth Faried, the nation’s leading rebounder, had 21 points and 20 rebounds to lead Morehead State to a 78-72 victory over Jacksonville State on Thursday night.

Demonte Harper added 25 points for the Eagles (16-8, 8-4 Ohio Valley Conference), who have won four straight and 10 of their past 12.

Faried surpassed 20 rebounds for the third time in Morehead State’s past five games to improve his average of 14.3 rebounds entering the game. He has three games of at least 20 points and 20 rebounds this year.

Jacksonville State’s Brian Williams hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 73-69 with 59 seconds to play, but Harper and Lamont Alston sealed it at the free-throw line.

Ty Proffitt added 17 points and Terrance Hill had 10 for Morehead State.

Williams scored 19 points, B.J. Miller and Frankie Bougher had 14 each and Nick Murphy added 12 for the Gamecocks (4-19, 2-10).
