MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — A homeless man acquitted of charges in a grass fire that destroyed 11 homes in Ashland last summer has pleaded not guilty to charges that he tossed a traffic pin off the Ashland Street bridge onto Interstate 5.

The Mail Tribune reports that 40-year-old John David Thiry was indicted Jan. 24 on charges of throwing an object off an overpass, disorderly conduct and recklessly endangering another person.

Thiry pleaded not guilty to all charges during an arraignment hearing Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court in Medford.

Ashland police arrested Thiry on Jan. 22 after a driver called 9-1-1 to report seeing Thiry throw an orange plastic traffic pin onto the freeway, just before police say he went to a shopping center and began aggressively panhandling.
