AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. (AP) — A prison bakery at Airway Heights is now using wheat grown in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

The Spokesman-Review reports the bakery is starting to use flour produced by Shepherd’s Grain, an alliance of family farmers in the region who follow environmentally friendly practices.

Nearly 290 inmates work in the bakery which makes bread, pastries and other food products for prisons, jails and Meals On Wheels in the Spokane area.
