A fire started by unattended cooking in a home’s garage caused about $15,000 damage to a Cascade Park home on Wednesday, not counting extensive damage to two vehicles.

The Vancouver Fire Department was notified of the fire at 13204 S.E. 26th St. at 5:01 p.m. Wednesday and arrived about seven minutes later to find smoke coming from the garage and eaves, said Capt. Chris Moen.

About 18 firefighters worked at the scene, confirming that all occupants were safely outside and extinguishing the blaze by 5:22 p.m.

No one was reported injured. Two adults and four children live in the home. Firefighters confined damage to the garage and vehicles; only light smoke made it into the living area.

The fire is believed to have been accidental.

Moen said officials didn’t know why the family was cooking on a campstove in the garage. It’s always dangerous to leave cooking food unattended, he said.

Phuong N. Huynh and Cindy Vo own the home, according to county records.
