Willard leads Pacific past UC Santa Barbara 74-68

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) — Sam Willard posted his 14th double-double and coach Bob Thomason notched his 400th career victory as Pacific defeated UC Santa Barbara 74-68 on Thursday night.

Willard scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Tigers (13-9, 5-4 Big West). Demetrece Young had 13 points and went 3-for-3 from 3-point range to lead Pacific’s 12-for-19 effort. Pat Eveland added 12 points.

Jordan Weiner’s 18 points paced the Gauchos (11-9, 4-5), who have dropped three of their last four. Orlando Johnson scored 16 points, hitting double figures for the 50th consecutive game. Jon Pastorek added 12 and James Nunnally 10.

Thomason is 400-284 in 23 seasons at Pacific. He joins Jerry Tarkanian of Long Beach State and UNLV as the only coaches in Big West history to win 400 games. Tarkanian had 405.

The Tigers shot 55.6 percent (25 of 45).

The Gauchos never led.
