The La Center girls basketball team beat White Salmeon 53-33 on Thursday to wrap up a share of the Trico League championship.
A coin flip will determine whether La Center or Ilwaco enter the district playoff as the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds.
Katrina Chamberlain had 14 points, 15 rebounds and five steals for the Wildcats. Marissa Moore had 14 points, six assists and five steals, and Kiley Monson grabbed 17 rebounds.
Girls basketball
At Ridgefield 40, Stevenson 37 — Jessica Shafer scored 10 points as the Spudders held off Stevenson to secure the No. 4 seed to the district playoffs. The loss also eliminated Stevenson from a postseason berth.
At Columbia Adventist 61, Vancouver Christian 30 — Jaci Allison scored 19 points and Chianne Hendrix added 16 as the Kodiaks improved to 6-0 in Columbia Valley League play.
Boys basketball
Prairie 50, Kelso 35 — The Falcons dominated the first and third quarters to clinch the No. 4 seed in the 3A Greater St. Helens League.
Now, they will open the district tournament by taking on the No. 5 seed — Kelso — on Tuesday.
In the regular season finale, Keaton Jackson had 10 points, 14 rebounds, and six blocked shots to pace the Falcons. Ryan Denny led the team with 11 points.
The Falcons outscored Kelso 14-4 to open the game, then had a 14-2 third quarter to take command on Senior Night at Prairie High School.
Hudson’s Bay 53, Fort Vancouver 30 — A 17-2 first quarter sent the host Eagles on their way to the win, which means Hudson’s Bay will finish as the No. 2 seed into the 3A GSHL playoffs. Tra Ponder led all scorers with 14 points.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Eagles.
Tonight’s Camas-Mountain View game will determine the Nos. 1 and 3 seeds to district.
Washougal 73, Woodland 46 — The Panthers shook off a slow start, then rolled past the Beavers.
Kevin Monsrud had 14 points and five rebounds, and TC White scored 11 points to lead Washougal. Michael McElroy had a strong all-around performance with seven points, four assists, and three steals.
Tannyr Knight led Woodland with 13 points.
Washougal outscored Woodland 45-13 in the middle quarters.
Mark Morris 62, R.A. Long 60 — Trailing most of the season half, the Monarchs took the lead on Ryan Littlefield inside basket with nine seconds to play.
The win moved Mark Morris (11-6, 8-2 2A GSHL) into a first-place tie with Hockinson, which was idle.
Ridgefield 61, Stevenson 53 — With the win, Ridgefield finished tied with Ilwaco for second place in the Trico League.
The Spudders and Fishermen meet in a tie-breaker game at 7 p.m. today at Castle Rock High School.
The winner qualifies for the district playoffs as the No. 2 Trico entry. Today’s loser will host a play-in game on Tuesdsay to enter the district tournament.
A 23-10 third quarter keyed Thursday’s win for the Spudders.
Michael Potter scored 10 of his 27 in the third quarter, and Sam Landerholm scored seven of his 22 in the period.
Ridgefield coach Gregg Ford said his team played strong defense and controlled the rebounding in the third quarter.
Seton Catholic 58, at Three Rivers Christian 57 — Hayden Strong hit the winning bucket with 10 seconds left and the Cougars nailed down the No. 3 spot for the 1B district playoffs.
Three Rivers led 57-50 with 2:18 left but Seton used a full-court press to close on an 8-0 run.
Strong finished with 15 points for the Cougars, and Conor McDaid-O’Neill had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Justin James added 11 rebounds.
Seton Catholic is a second-year school that went 1-20 a season ago.
King’s Way Christian 55, at Washington School for the Deaf 35 — The Knights wrapped up second place in the 1B Columbia Valley League. Jake Tront scored 12 points and Chris Crenshaw 11 for King’s Way.
Josh Snyder and EJ Russell each had 12 rebounds for the Knights.
King’s Way will host a district playoff game on Feb. 16.
At Columbia Adventist 57, Vancouver Christian 42 — Tevita Palaki scored 29 points to lead Columbia Adventist over the Light.
Letter of Intent
Add Ridgefield’s Travis Heim to the list of those who became Division I athletes this week.
Heim signed with Seattle University to play soccer.
Heim plays for the Spudders and Columbia Premier Soccer Club.
