ZWIESEL, Germany (AP) — Three-time World Cup champion Lindsey Vonn has pulled out of a World Cup slalom after sustaining a concussion in a crash during practice.
Organizers say the American star decided to drop out of Friday’s race and rest. Vonn told The Associated Press on the eve of the race that she had suffered a concussion in a heavy crash in Austria two days ago and that she was day-to-day.
Friday’s slalom and a giant slalom slated for Saturday are the final races before the world championships start next week in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.
Vonn will not lose any ground on rival and friend Maria Riesch of Germany, the overall World Cup leader. Riesch crashed in the first heat on a foggy course.
