EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Sales of Oregon agricultural products recovered slightly last year after a sharp decline in 2009.

The Register-Guard reports the latest annual report from Oregon State University shows improvement. But an OSU economist says it was still far from a rosy year for the state’s farmers and ranchers.

Sales of Oregon farm products totaled $4.3 billion in 2010, up 3.8 percent from 2009.

But farmers didn’t recover all the ground they lost when sales dropped 15 percent in 2009, the biggest percentage decline since Oregon State began keeping records 35 years ago.

The report said grass seed farmers and growers of ornamental plants continued to be hard hit by the poor economy in 2010.
