ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Junior college defensive tackle John Jenkins has joined Georgia’s class of signees.
The 6-foot-4, 340-pound player from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College said Saturday that he is signing with Georgia.
Jenkins is expected to start at nose tackle in Georgia’s 3-4 defense. Coach Mark Richt has said any junior college player signed by Georgia is expected to contribute immediately.
Jenkins is Georgia’s 26th signee. He chose Georgia over Florida and other Southeastern Conference schools in announcing his decision in his hometown of Meriden, Conn.
Jenkins’ addition is another boost to Georgia’s highly rated signing class and is especially important following a 6-7 finish in 2010, Richt’s first losing season in 10 seasons.
