SAN DIEGO (AP) — Mychel Thompson hit a desperation 35-foot shot at the buzzer to tie the game at the end of regulation and then scored 12 of his 25 points in overtime as Pepperdine beat San Diego 70-63 on Saturday night.

The Waves (10-16, 4-5 West Coast) were down 57-54 when Thompson made his shot from two strides inside the half-court line.

Before that, Chris Gabriel had missed a free throw for the Toreros (5-19,1-8) with 4.3 seconds left, allowing Pepperdine’s Gus Clardy to grab the rebound and feed it to Thompson.

Thompson went on to score his team’s first 12 points in overtime, including his fifth 3-pointer as Pepperdine outscored the Toreros, 13-6.

Devin Ginty led San Diego with a career-high 23 points while Matt Dorr added 14 points and Gabriel snagged a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Taylor Darby scored 14 points and Lorne Jackson 11 for the Waves.
