SEATTLE (AP) — An alpine rescue group has found the body of a 40-year-old skier who went missing in the backcountry near Snoqualmie Pass about 50 miles east of Seattle.

King County sheriff’s Sgt. John Urquhart says the woman’s body was found Saturday afternoon, and the sheriff’s office will coordinate the body’s retrieval.

The woman went skiing by herself in the Red Mountain area Tuesday. She apparently removed her skis and backpack and stepped onto an overhanging ledge of snow to get a better view, only to have the ledge give way.

The area where her body was found is a four-hour hike from Snoqualmie Pass.
