TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A logging museum in Tacoma that features a camp and railroad is on the brink of closing.
The News Tribune of Tacoma reports that the Camp 6 Logging Museum at Point Defiance Park has kept a window on Western Washington’s steam-logging history for 47 years. It’s closed for the winter, and it might not reopen in April because it’s having money problems.
For many years the camp drew enough visitors to cover operating costs. Last year, income from train rides and the camp’s small souvenir-book store fell to $11,000, down 40 percent from the year before. Ridership fell from 6,000 in 2009 to 3,600 last year.
