Vermont wins 7th straight, beats Stony Brook 65-42

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Brendan Bald scored 19 points and Vermont extended its win streak to seven games by defeating Stony Brook 65-42 Sunday.

Evan Fjeld surpassed the career 1,000-point mark by adding 14 points as the Catamounts (18-5, 10-2 America East Conference) ensured that they would maintain their hold on first place in the league.

The Seawolves (9-14, 4-7) took an 11-10 lead with 12:19 left in the first half as Dave Coley made a free throw. But they went cold, making only two field goals the rest of the half while Vermont scored 22 points to claim a 32-15 lead at halftime.

The Catamounts stretched their lead to 27 points in the second half and finished the game shooting 56.5 percent from the field (26 of 46), while Stony Brook was held to 38.6-percent shooting (17 of 44).

Leonard Hayes had 12 points to lead the Seawolves, who committed 24 turnovers.
