Goergl of Austria wins super-G gold

GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) — Elisabeth Goergl of Austria won the women’s super-G in the opening race of the world championships on Tuesday.

Julia Mancuso of the United States earned the silver and Maria Riesch of Germany was third with some late starters still to come.

Defending champion Lindsey Vonn of the United States started despite sustaining a concussion last week and finished seventh according to provisional results.
