ROTTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) — Michael Llodra of France has defeated Nikolay Davydenko of Russia in straight sets on the opening day of the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament.

Llodra, the 2008 champion, won 6-3, 7-6 (4) on Monday. He won Davydenko’s first service game for the only break of the match and then saved two break points to win the first set.

The 22nd-ranked Llodra couldn’t break Davydenko again in the second, when the Russian saved four break points to take the set to a tiebreaker, which the Frenchman won.

In Monday’s other first-round matches, Marin Cilic of Croatia overcame German qualifier Mischa Zverev 6-2, 6-4, while Viktor Troicki defeated Dutch wild card Thomas Schoorel, also in straight sets.
