SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Police are investigating a suspicious package inside a duffel bag found at a major intersection in downtown Salem.

The Statesman Journal reports the military-style duffel bag was found shortly after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday near the Oregon Department of Energy building on the northeast corner of Church and Center streets.

Oregon State Police and Salem police were using a bomb squad robot to examine the bag and the package inside. They also were going to X-ray the bag.

Businesses along Center and Church streets were asked to lock down and keep people from going into the streets while police investigate.
