Vermont defeats Maryland-Baltimore County 80-67

BALTIMORE (AP) — Brian Voelkel scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds to lead all five starters in double figures as Vermont defeated Maryland-Baltimore County 80-67 on Wednesday night.

Brendan Bald added 19 points for the Catamounts (20-5, 11-2 America East Conference), who extended their winning streak to eight games and remained in first place in the conference.

Vermont never trailed, led by 10 points just 6 minutes into the game and built a 29-point lead to reach 20 victories for the eighth time in the past 10 years.

Leading 22-11, the Catamounts went on a 13-3 run for a 35-14 lead on Bald’s layup with 6:06 left in the first half. Another layup by Bald gave Vermont a 45-20 advantage with 1:42 to play.

Matt Glass scored 13, Evan Fjeld had 11 and Sandro Carissimo added 10 points for Vermont.

Chris De La Rosa led UMBC (5-20, 4-8) with 20 points and Travis King added 18 points.
