SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber is signing an executive order to implement part of his education agenda.

Kitzhaber is scheduled to announce the effort at a press conference in Portland on Friday. His office says the executive order will create the governor’s Education Investment Team, which he describes as a first step in creating an education system that coordinates learning from birth through age 20.

Kitzhaber’s office says the effort is designed to ensure children are ready to learn when they reach school age, that teachers have enough tools and training and that high school graduates are prepared for the work force.
