SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A computer flash drive with payroll information for more than 500 Oregon Department of Corrections employees turned up in Madras.

Department spokeswoman Jeanine Hohn says a person who came into possession of the portable storage device notified the agency Jan. 27 about the security breach.

The Statesman Journal reports the information contained Social Security numbers for about 300 of the employees.

Department officials say there’s no evidence the information has been misused. It has hired a fraud protection company to help the employees protect their identities.
