Wind advisory in effect for region

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory through 10 p.m. today for the Portland-Vancouver area, central and southern Willamette Valley, the lower Columbia and the Interstate 5 corridor in Southwest Washington.

South winds of 20-30 mph with gusts of 40-50 mph have been common throughout the interior valleys late this afternoon into early this evening.

Winds appear to be decreasing slightly this evening, but gusts to 45 mph will still be possible until a cold front moves through later this evening.

As of 6:40 p.m., weather stations reported peak gusts of 44 mph at Portland International Airport, 39 mph on the Interstate 205 Bridge and 31 mph at Pearson Field in Vancouver.
