SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Economists are releasing their latest projections on Oregon’s tax revenue, and their findings will shed light on just how deep lawmakers will have to cut into education and other services.
The Legislative Revenue Office will brief lawmakers on Tuesday. Their quarterly report will be the final projection before the two-year budget cycle ends in June. It will be used by lawmakers as they try to rebalance the current budget and plan for the next one.
Unexpectedly low income would mean even deeper cuts than those already being considered. Excess revenue would give lawmakers some breathing room.
Gov. John Kitzhaber has proposed a budget that cuts millions from schools, health care and other areas. Lawmakers are still developing their budget suggestions and will rely in part on Tuesday’s report.
