SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Spokane County sheriff’s deputies kicked down the door to a burning home at Chattaroy and rescued a suicidal man who tried to fight them off with a knife and homemade flamethrower.

KHQ reports the man was subdued with a Taser early Wednesday, treated at hospital and jailed for investigation of arson and child molestation.

Deputies were called to the home by a teenage son who reported his father was suicidal after raping a younger sister. When deputies arrived the man sent his three children outside and set fire to an aerosol spray and started burning curtains and cabinets.

After subduing the man, deputies knocked down the flames with pans of water. They found two dogs cowering under a bed in a back room. The children were released to a grandparent.
