Jayhawks stepping back and taking stock

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — No. 1 Kansas is way past fretting over how brief their stay atop The Associated Press poll will be.

Still reeling from Monday night’s blowout loss to unranked Kansas State, the Jayhawks are stepping back and taking stock. There were lessons to learn from a jolting 84-68 loss just hours after ascending to No. 1 in the nation, and they are determined to learn them.

Coach Bill Self said the main problem was a lack of focus on offense and defense, but especially on defense. The players agreed that was probably their worst loss since they signed with Kansas.
