SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Salem, Ore., police say one person died late Friday in a house fire.
A section of Center Street was closed for several hours while authorities controlled the fire and began an investigation.
Salem Fire Battalion Chief Cord Von Derahe tells the Statesman Journal that firefighters found flames on the first floor when they arrived. The victim was not immediately identified.
Salem firefighters are working with police detectives to determine the cause of the blaze but say they suspect it was set. Lt. Steve Birr says police plan to serve a search warrant at the home Saturday.
