CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Mustapha Farrakhan scored 16 points and made key shots down the stretch to lead Virginia to a 61-54 win over Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Joe Harris finished with 15 points for the Cavaliers (13-13, 4-8 Atlantic Coast Conference), who ended a three-game losing streak.
Malcolm Delaney scored 22 points for the Hokies (17-8, 7-5) with 22 points. Erick Green added 12.
Farrakhan’s fastbreak layup following a Virginia Tech turnover gave Virginia an eight-point lead with 52 seconds to go and forced the visitors to play catch-up the rest of the way.
The win by Virginia gave it a season sweep over its in-state rival and evened the all-time ACC series at seven games apiece.
