George Washington nips La Salle 82-80

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Tony Taylor and Nemanja Mikic each scored 17 points, and George Washington held off a late rally to beat La Salle 82-80 on Saturday night.

Taylor also had 11 rebounds for the Colonials, who led by 18 points with 14:48 to play. The lead was 75-65 with 3:45 left when the Explorers made a 14-5 run to cut the deficit to 80-79 with 26 seconds remaining.

Taylor hit two free throws for an 82-79 lead with 16 seconds left, then Sam Mills made a free throw for La Salle with 3 seconds to go, rebounded his own miss and Aaric Murray missed a potential game-tying jumper at the buzzer.

Dwayne Smith added 14 points and Bryan Bynes had 11 for the Colonials (14-12, 7-5 Atlantic 10 Conference), who swept the season series.

Jerrell Williams scored 27 points, Tyreek Duren added 15 points and Murray had 11 for the Explorers (12-14, 4-8), who have lost four of their past five games.
