JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Lance Feurtado scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Grambling State defeated Jackson State 69-67 in overtime Saturday night.
Grambling (7-19, 5-9 Southwestern Athletic Conference) won for the fourth time in the last five games by outworking Jackson State on the boards for a 37-28 rebounding advantage.
Rupert Rose added 14 points and Donald Qualls had 12 as Grambling, seventh in the conference, pulled off a mild upset of the third-place team.
Grant Maxey led Jackson State (14-12, 10-4) with 24 points, but his team faltered in its second-half shooting. After making 11 of 23 in the first half, Jackson State slipped to 10 of 26 in the second half and missed 5 of 6 shots in the extra period.
Grambling might have won in regulation, but 13 turnovers gave Jackson State 16 points. Grambling, conversely, scored only four points off five Jackson State turnovers.
