Kevin VanDam leads Bassmaster Classic

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Defending champion Kevin VanDam of Kalamazoo, Mich., increased his haul to 41 pounds, 11 ounces to take the lead after the second day of the Bassmaster Classic on Saturday.

VanDam, seeking his fourth title, began the day in third place and had the biggest bag of the day at 22-8. He moved nearly four pounds ahead of Brent Chapman of Lake Quivira, Kansas, who was at 38-1 after a haul of 20-1.

Aaron Martens of Leeds, Ala., who had the first-day lead, dropped to third at 33-2 after a 12-11.

Brandon Palaniuk of Rathdrum, Idaho, moved seven places up to fourth at 32-8 after a 17-14. Scott Rook of Little Rock, Ark., fell three places to fifth after a 12-5 put his total at 31-11.
