ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — University of Alaska Anchorage officials say one of its top cross-country runners was found dead in his apartment near campus Saturday morning.

William Ritekwiang was 23, and a sophomore from Kenya.

Sports information director Nate Sagan says no foul play is suspected in his death, but said the Anchorage Police Department is handling the investigation.

School officials say Ritekwiang was one of eight Kenyans on this school year’s cross-country team. He was an academic All-American and a member of the university’s men’s team that captured the NCAA West Region championship.

The university’s athletic department issued a statement saying they “are devastated by the loss of one of our outstanding student-athletes.”
