Indians’ Sizemore takes it slow after knee surgery

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — As the Cleveland Indians hold their first full-squad workout of spring training, Grady Sizemore is on his own program with the goal to be ready for opening day.

Sizemore is recovering from microfracture knee surgery in June. He concedes he’s taking baby steps.

Known as a player who flies around the bases and slams into walls chasing fly balls, the hustling center fielder is having to learn patience. The three-time All-Star is taking batting practice, throwing and jogging, but there is no timetable for when he will resume full baseball activities.

Sizemore played in only 33 games last season after injuring his left knee in May and batted .211. He also battled injuries in 2009 when he hit .248 and was limited to 106 games. Sizemore had elbow and groin surgeries after that season.
