What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

At long last, we can now officially bury the conspiracy theories that NASCAR choreographs races.

Because not even Oliver Stone could have come up with a script and a storyline this unbelievable and this inconceivable.

The youngest winner and the oldest team combined to win the biggest race of them all.

“Are you kidding me?” screamed 20-year-old Trevor Bayne as he crossed the finish line, uniting with the iconic Wood Brothers to pull perhaps the most shocking upset in Daytona history.

He then exclaimed on the radio to his teammates: “I don’t even know where to go. How do you get to victory lane?”

It’s Hollywood, folks. Going in, you have got to expect everything is going to be over the top.

It was.

It’s Hollywood, folks. Going in, you have got to expect that Kobe Bryant is going to win the MVP of the NBA All-Star Game.

He did.

But Bryant was hardly the only highlight of an extravagant night of entertainment.

Singer Lenny Kravitz performed before the game. Rihanna and Kanye West did halftime. The courtside seats were filled with the usual celebrities Lil’ Wayne, Diddy, Spike Lee, etc. In other words, all the same people who have sat courtside all season when the Heat comes to L.A.

Odd was Jack Nicholson, the actor most associated with the hometown Lakers, who wasn’t seated courtside. He was three rows back.
