GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Mike Williams and Richie Gordon each hit a pair of free throws in the final two seconds as Western Carolina defeated North Carolina Greensboro 70-66 Monday night.

Harouna Mutombo led the Catamounts (16-13, 11-5 Southern Conference) in scoring and rebounding with 20 points and eight boards. That helped Western Carolina win its seventh straight while sending the Spartans (5-22, 5-11) to their fourth consecutive defeat. Western Carolina has won six straight against the Spartans, and the victory maintained its first-place tie with Chattanooga in the conference’s North Division.

Trey Sumler added 16 points for Western Carolina, Williams had 11 and Brandon Boggs contributed 10. That helped the Catamounts offset a 23-point performance by Brandon Evans, who led UNC Greensboro. The Spartans also got 12 points from Trevis Simpson and 10 from Aloysius Henry.
