SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon lawmakers are considering relief from tuition increases for needy college students.
The Senate Education and Workforce Development Committee will hold a public hearing on the idea on Tuesday.
Senate President Peter Courtney, a Democrat from Salem, is sponsoring the measure. It would require that universities and community colleges help students with financial need when tuition is hiked above a certain threshold.
Courtney’s bill leaves the threshold to be decided. The hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Salem.
