Kuznetsova loses to Peer in Doha opener

DOHA, Qatar (AP) — Shahar Peer of Israel defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia 6-2, 6-4 in the first round of the Qatar Open on Tuesday.

Two days after losing to No. 1-ranked Caroline Wozniacki in the final at Dubai, Kuznetsova struggled with a foot problem. She received courtside treatment in the second set, but was able to continue.

Also, Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia defeated Victoria Azarenka 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 and fifth-seeded Jelena Jankovic topped Fatma Al Nabhani 6-1, 6-3.
