Hackers broke into Battle Ground High School’s website on Tuesday, posting obscenities and general threats later deemed “not credible” by Battle Ground police, the Battle Ground school district said on Wednesday.

An investigation by police and school district security and information technology personnel found the unauthorized entry occurred between 3:17 and 6:17 p.m. Tuesday.

The person or persons responsible “compromised” six different web pages, the district said. Principal Tim Lexow reported there were inflammatory comments, obscenities and general, “vague” threats.

The site was shut down for cleanup and passwords were changed, Lexow said.

As of Wednesday night, the site remained down.

Lt. Roy Butler with the Battle Ground Police Department said it was premature to discuss any leads or clues related to the case.

The unauthorized hacking does constitute a federal offense.
