SEATTLE (AP) — The National Weather Service says northwest Washington’s Skagit, Snohomish and Clallam counties took the initial brunt of Wednesday’s snow. Meteorologist Kirby Cook says Mount Vernon had 8 inches by Wednesday evening, Anacortes had 6 inches and Port Angeles reported 5 inches, with nearly 5 inches in areas of the east Puget Sound lowlands. Snow continued to fall on Washington’s major Cascade Mountain passes.
By Wednesday night, temperatures were dipping into the high 20s in northwest Washington. Cook says that with moisture still in the forecast, that could mean 1-3 inches of snow in the Seattle area overnight — and trouble for Thursday morning commuters.
The snow should let up by Thursday night..
In Eastern Washington, Weather Service meteorologist Steve Bodnar says 2-4 inches of snow fell in the Spokane area by Wednesday night, with more expected and a forecast low of 13.
Wednesday’s snowfall caused numerous crashes along Interstate 90 in the downtown Spokane area.
