Transportation officials urge drivers to monitor road conditions

If the storm forecasters are predicting for this afternoon materializes, the evening commute could be messy. That’s the idea behind a news release being distributed today by the Washington Department of Transportation pointing drivers to resources where they can check weather conditions before setting out.

The state transportation department has crews at the ready to help keep traffic moving. City and county public works crews are also prepared to deploy de-icers and snow plows.

Below is a sampling of some resources state officials are urging drivers to check out:

Drivers are advised to slow down and allow more space between vehicles. Blades on snowplows are often wider than the lane so don’t get too close.
