Cochran, Kuhlman lead Davidson over Elon 83-75

DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) — Nik Cochran had a career-high 29 points and JP Kuhlman added 22 to lead Davidson to an 83-75 win over Elon on Thursday night.

Cochran scored six points during a 9-2 stretch for the Wildcats (16-13, 9-8 Southern Conference), which turned a two-point game into an 80-71 Davidson lead. Cochran’s free throws capped the spurt with 34 seconds to play. It was the eighth win in the last nine games for the Wildcats.

The first half saw 13 lead changes and neither team led by more than six points. Davidson then made 6 of 12 shots from 3-point range and held the Phoenix (12-16, 6-11) to 37 percent shooting in the second half (10 of 27).

Chris Long led Elon with 27 points, going 8 for 13 from the floor and 9 of 9 from the free-throw line. Lucas Troutman added 16 points and Scott Grable 10 for the Phoenix, who committed just nine turnovers, but managed only six assists.
