A 15-year-old Vancouver boy was apparently just walking by a house party last weekend when he formed a plan to commit a robbery there, according to court documents filed Friday.

Figuring the door would be unlocked, the documents alleged, Samuel H. Dunn went home to retrieve his handgun — a MAC-10 — a sports bag and a mask before returning and entering the home unannounced. He later allegedly shot and wounded a man and a woman.

Dunn made his first appearance Friday morning in Clark County Juvenile Court on suspicion of attempted murder of two people, the attempted robbery of 11 people last weekend and first-degree burglary.

Superior Court Judge Robert Lewis appointed defense attorney Michael Borge to represent him.

Dunn is being held in the Juvenile Detention Center. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday, but Deputy Prosecutor Rick Olson said arraignment may be postponed if prosecutors decide to request that Dunn be tried as an adult.

Olson said prosecutors were meeting Friday to decide on how to move forward and what charges to bring against Dunn.

In Washington, 16- and 17-year-olds charged with serious violent offenses are remanded to adult court, but the remand requires a formal motion to the court for younger juveniles.

Dunn has no prior public criminal history.

Court documents filed shed light on Dunn’s alleged robbery attempt and shooting at 4213 N.E. 38th St. late Saturday night.

Sheriff’s investigators said in reports that several tips generated by media coverage of a $1,000 reward led them to the 15-year-old.

In interviews with detectives, Dunn reportedly said that he assumed the front door would be unlocked because of the party. He walked home and retrieved the gun and other items. He returned about 11:40 p.m. and entered through the front door, allegedly throwing a duffel bag on the kitchen floor and ordering people to dump their wallets inside, the report said.

“Dunn said that he didn’t think anyone heard him, and he fired one shot in the wall toward the ceiling,” according to a probable cause affidavit by sheriff’s Detective Rick Buckner.

People turned around and a man came toward him, he told investigators, so he backed out of the house.

A man and woman followed him to the driveway, where Dunn allegedly fired four or five shots at them.

“Dunn said he considered himself a good shot and purposely aimed low,” according to Buckner’s affidavit.

When asked why he didn’t just run away, Dunn reportedly said he was worried the two would get in their car and run him over.

Cory S. Bloom was shot in his hip and thigh. Sarah A. Godfrey was shot in her leg. Both are about 22 years old and were treated for injuries at a local hospital.

Olson said Dunn lives just a couple blocks away, in the 4300 block of Northeast 38th Street.

“Dunn said that he ran around the block, cutting through back yards before going home and went to bed,” according to Buckner’s affidavit.
