Appalachian State beats The Citadel 70-59

BOONE, N.C. (AP) — Omar Carter scored 25 points to lead Appalachian State to a 70-59 win over The Citadel on Saturday in both teams’ regular season finale.

The Mountaineers (15-14, 10-8 Southern Conference) shot 58.1 percent from the field (18 of 31), including 5 of 10 from 3-point range in the opening half en route to a 42-30 halftime lead.

Appalachian State posted a 28-14 scoring edge in the paint and outscored The Citadel 26-6 in bench points.

Anthony Breeze added 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting for the Mountaineers, who have won seven of their last eight games.

The Bulldogs (10-21, 6-12) got as close as 48-44 with 12:39 left to play, but a 12-2 run put Appalachian State in front 60-46 midway through the second half.

Cameron Wells scored 21 points, Austin Dahn added 12 and Mike Groselle 10 for The Citadel, which has lost eight of its last nine contests.
